NEELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): Authorities have warned of an expected rise in water levels in the Neelum River after India reportedly released a significantly higher volume of water than usual from the Kishanganga Dam.

According to official sources, the sudden and unusual release of water from the Kishanganga Dam has raised concerns about potential flooding along the Neelum River.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued an alert to all the concerned departments, as well as residents in dangerous areas to make sure that they are prepared for any danger by taking immediate precaution.

Under the State Emergency Operation Centre, the Director General of the State Disaster Management Authority has stressed the need for residents to be informed and defer to safety recommendation. The current conditions are being monitored regularly and any timely updates will be issued whenever the need arises.

Although there appears to have currently been no damage caused by the excess water being released by India, the danger of flooding remains as the water levels of the Neelum River are increasing. The residents who live in the neighbourhood are advised to avoid the river banks and support the local emergency services when required.

Citizens living in the vicinity of the Neelum River are advised to be careful and prepared to act rapidly in case the levels of water change unexpectedly. Emergency personnel are all ready and capable of taking immediate action if the situations worsen because of the excess water being released into the Neelum River from the Kishanganga Dam, safety measures have been advised considering the dangers this situation might pose.

India has also breached the ceasefire, as of May 11, 2025, significant casualties and damage across multiple districts of Azad Kashmir have been recorded after Indian aggression, again during the darkness of night, targeting civilian populations.

The severe incident of ceasefire breach by Indian forces last night, in areas near the Loc, has resulted in substantial human and material losses across several districts, according to the latest situation report.
