ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Sohail Chaudhry has been appointed as the new Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, while the incumbent IG, Ali Nasir Rizvi, has been transferred to serve as the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Sohail Chaudhry is a BS-20 grade officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). He has previously held key positions in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan, and has also discharged significant responsibilities within the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab.
His past assignments include serving as Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, City Police Officer (CPO) Faisalabad, DIG Operations Lahore, DIG CTD Punjab, and RPO Multan.
Chaudhry assumed the role of DIG Operations Lahore following the 2021 Minar-e-Pakistan harassment incident, a move that brought his professional profile into the national spotlight.
He subsequently served as DIG CTD Punjab but was later transferred out of the province and appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
Meanwhile, Ali Nasir Rizvi, who was serving as the IG of Islamabad Police, will now take charge as the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
Sohail Chaudhry’s appointment as the head of Islamabad Police comes at a time when the process of introducing modern systems within the capital’s police force is underway.
These initiatives include an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled command and control system designed to enhance the effectiveness of real-time surveillance and response mechanisms.
