ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted strong winds and thundershowers at some places in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and the adjoining hilly areas during evening and night time.
The forecast comes amid the authorities issued red alert for Punjab that heatwave is likely to intensify in the coming days.
Severe heatwave is also likely to grip Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday advised the citizens to take necessary precautions as ongoing heatwave is likely to intensify across major cities and plains of the province, predicting the temperature to spike by May 19 (today).
The spokesperson for the PDMA urged tourists — who are planning to visit Murree — to be updated about weather and avoid travel during unstable conditions.
The officials have also advised the residents and visitors to remain indoor in anticipation of heavy rainfall.
Health officials have urged citizens to take precautionary measures against the heatwave.
Vulnerable groups like children, elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions have been especially advised to take precautionary measures.
