RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Lahore Qalandars advanced to playoffs by defeating Peshawar Zalmi in the rain-reduced match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.
Zalmi failed to qualify for PSL playoffs
It is for the first time that Peshawar Zalmi failed to qualify for PSL playoffs in the tournament’s history.
Chasing a daunting 150-run target in 13 overs, Zalmi could only score 123 for the loss of eight wickets.
Lower-order batter Daniel Sams, unbeaten 26, remained the top-scorer for Zalmi, followed by Ahmed Daniyal (24), Abdul Samad (17) and Babar Azam (16), while the rest of their players failed to enter double figure.
Debutant Mirza remained the most successful bowler for Lahore Qalandars, picking up four wickets for 31 runs in his three overs.
Skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi secured two wickets, while Sikandar Raza and Haris Rauf chipped in with one scalp apiece.
Lahore Qalandars accumulated 149/8 in the match reduced to 13 overs per side due to rain.
The Qalandars got off to a brilliant start to their innings as openers Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Naeem put together 54 runs in just 3.4 overs.
Fakhar also shared a brief partnerships with Abdullah Shafique and Kusal Perera, who made modest contributions with five and 17, respectively.
Fakhar remained the top-scorer for the Qalandars with a 36-ball 60, featuring 10 boundaries including three sixes.
For Zalmi, Sams, Ali and Daniyal bagged two wickets each.
