ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan has rejected India’s unilateral claims and actions regarding Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, saying that Indian actions cannot change the disputed status of the region.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said in his statement that the Kashmir issue is one of the oldest unresolved disputes on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.

He said that the future of Jammu and Kashmir should be decided through a free and impartial plebiscite of the Kashmiri people under the relevant UN resolutions.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson said that the plebiscite should be conducted under the supervision of the United Nations according to the will of the Kashmiri people so that they can freely decide about their future.

According to Sajjad Haider Khan, occupied Jammu and Kashmir is shown as a disputed region in the official maps of the United Nations.

He said that the so-called official maps issued by India and unilateral claims of sovereignty over the region have no legal standing under international law.

The spokesperson urged India to immediately stop the human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and ensure respect for the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.

The Foreign Office also urged the international community to play its role for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue and force India to abide by its international commitments regarding the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan reiterated its position that a solution to the Kashmir issue is possible only in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
