LONDON (Kashmir English): England Test captain Ben Stokes has announced his retirement from international cricket.
The Test against New Zealand in Nottingham will be the final match of his career, according to a statement issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Ben Stokes informed his fellow cricketers of the decision before the start of the game today.
Ben Stokes did not rule out the possibility that this could be his last Test during the press conference before the third Test at Trent Bridge.
Ben Stokes’ 15-year international career and 4-year Test captaincy for England are coming to an end.
He played his first T20I for England in 2011, while his Test debut was made during the Ashes series in Adelaide in December 2013 and he has been leading the England Test team since April 2022.
Ben Stokes has played 121 Tests for England, scoring 7,228 runs and taking 246 wickets. He has played 114 One-Day Internationals, scoring 3,463 runs and taking 74 wickets. He has scored 585 runs and taken 26 wickets in 43 T20Is.
