LOS ANGELES (Kashmir English): Canada, the co-hosts of the FIFA World Cup 2026, defeated South Africa 1-0 to make it to the pre-quarterfinals, qualifying for this stage of the mega event for the first time.
In the match played at the Los Angeles Stadium, the South African team had a heavy lead in the first half. Their players attacked the Canadian goal from time to time but could not succeed.
On the other hand, Canada tried its best to take the lead in this half, but it could not succeed either; neither team could score a goal in the first half.
In the second half, both sides showed some speed in the game, but no one could get the lead.
Then, in injury time, Canada got a chance on a move; their player Stephen Stockwell put the ball into the opponent’s net to give the team the lead, which was enough for Canada to win.
For the first time in the history of the mega event, the Canadian team has reached the pre-quarterfinals. They will face either the Netherlands or Morocco in the round of 16.
