LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan spin bowler Mohammad Nawaz has accepted a period of ineligibility of three months (which will reduce to one month when he completes a substance of abuse treatment programme) for violating the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
The 32-year-old was found to have failed a test for Substance of Abuse (Carboxy-THC) under the ICC Anti-Doping Code following a doping test done after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 game against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 7 February.
The athlete confessed to the violation and proved that the substance of abuse had been consumed out-of-competition and was not related to his sport.
The player has received a three-month period of ineligibility, which begins on 1 May 2026 when he voluntarily put himself on a provisional suspension. He will only serve one month when he completes the substance of abuse treatment programme.
Apart from acknowledging the penalty and participating in the substance of abuse treatment programme, the player has been released from the provisional suspension after serving two and a half (2 ½) months.
Provided that Nawaz completes the substance of abuse treatment programme to the satisfaction of ICC, Nawaz won’t be required to complete any further period of ineligibility.
