DUBAI (Kashmir English): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has started formal consideration of holding a trilateral or four-nation tournament to revive cricket ties between arch-rivals Pakistan and India.
This important development and the financial benefits of the multi-nation series will be reviewed at the ICC’s high-level meeting scheduled in Dubai this month.
According to a private TV report, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been proposing a multi-nation tournament involving Pakistan and India to the ICC for the past several years.
It is now expected that this proposal will be formally discussed in the next ICC meeting. In this regard, an important seminar of the ICC’s ‘Future Tours Program’ (FTP) is being held in Dubai on September 22 and 23, in which representatives of 12 Test-playing nations and 8 associate members will participate.
According to a private TV report, the financial and commercial benefits of a multinational series compared to a traditional bilateral ODI or T20 series will be examined in detail during this high-level meeting.
Under the new format under consideration, a thrilling tournament can be organized by including 1 or 2 more top teams of the world along with Pakistan and India.
It should be noted that due to the ongoing political tension between the two countries, Pakistan and India have not played any bilateral cricket series for more than a decade.
During this long period, these two traditional rivals have only faced each other in ICC global events or Asian Cricket Council multinational tournaments.
