POONCH (Kashmir English): The personal security guard of the Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, President Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Azad Kashmir, was killed after armed men of the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) opened fire on the former AJK Prime Minister’s convoy in the Tain Dhalkot area of Poonch district on Friday, his spokesperson said.
As per details, the convoy was travelling from Islamabad to Pachiot in Rawalakot for an election campaign when it was allegedly attacked within the jurisdiction of Police Station Tain.
According to the statement issued on Tanveer Ilyas’s social media, the former prime minister’s vehicle came under gunfire and stone-pelting during the incident.
During the attack, his personal security guard, Muhammad Asif, was killed, while several other people travelling in the convoy sustained injuries. Multiple vehicles in the convoy were also reportedly damaged.
Sources said that IPP AJK President’s former special assistant, Sardar Imtiaz Shaheen, was also reportedly injured.
Former Prime Minister Tanveer Ilyas left for Rawalakot today on a two-day visit, accompanied by a large convoy of party leaders and workers.
As per the statement, the funeral prayers of the deceased security guard, resident of Palandri, will be offered today, Friday, after Isha prayers at Jamia Masjid near Allah Wali Market, F-8/1, Islamabad.
