NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will lead the Pakistani delegation at the high-level session of the UN General Assembly in New York from September 21 to 25.

On September 25, he will address the General Debate, which is themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Change: A UN that Works for All.”

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, briefed journalists regarding the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

He stated that the session would take place from September 22 to 26 and on September 28, noting that the newly elected President has set the theme for the General Debate as “Restoring Trust, Managing Change: A UN that Works for All.”

He mentioned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would address the General Assembly on September 25, presenting Pakistan’s stance on the regional and global security situation and emphasizing the need for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, dialogue, diplomacy, and restraint.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmad added that, in his address, the Prime Minister would also highlight Pakistan’s priorities regarding key global issues, including sustainable development, climate change, counter-terrorism, Islamophobia, global economic challenges, UN reforms, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN stated that Pakistan would draw the international community’s attention to issues concerning prolonged occupation and the right to self-determination specifically regarding Palestine and Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and would stress the need for their resolution in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.

He stated that the Prime Minister would hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and the UN Secretary-General on the sidelines of the General Assembly session; Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar would also engage in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmed noted that the Foreign Minister would participate in a high-level Security Council meeting on artificial intelligence and security on September 23.

Pakistan intends to utilize the UN high-level week to highlight the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation in fostering regional peace and stability, strengthening the multilateral system, and resolving global conflicts.

Separately, sources indicate that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also attend a luncheon hosted by Donald Trump on September 22.
