According to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the project had been finalised at Rs 1.4 billion, reduced from the initial estimate of Rs 1.6 billion. In addition to the underpass, the project also includes 4 new slip roads to improve traffic distribution and movement.
CDA said the Kashmir Chowk junction, before the construction of the underpass, handled approximately 107,000 vehicles, resulting in frequent traffic congestion.
After its opening, traffic coming from Serena Hotel will move towards Faizabad through the underpass, while vehicles coming from Faizabad will be diverted towards Murree using the rooftop of the underpass.
The aim of the project is to reduce traffic pressure at Kashmir Chowk and facilitate transportation between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The local publisher, citing CDA officials, reported that the project was likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday or Friday.
