MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Mirpur traffic police have increased fines for various traffic violations, aiming to improve road safety and discipline.

District Traffic Inspector Mirpur Rohail Shaukat said that the fines were increased following the amendments in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1971.

The new fines vary depending on the type of vehicle and the severity of the offense.

The traffic police said that fines for speeding have been increased to Rs 500 for motorcycles, Rs 1000 for cars and jeeps, and Rs 2000 for public service vehicles.

The fine for not wearing helmets has been increased to Rs 1000. For underage driving, the police have fixed Rs 1500 for motorcycles, Rs 2000 for cars, and Rs 3000 for public service vehicles.

For overloading passengers, the car and jeep will be fined Rs 1000, and public service vehicles will be fined Rs 1000.

Furthermore, for violating traffic signals, the fine for motorcycles has been increased to Rs 500, Rs 1000 for motor jeeps, and Rs 1500 for public service vehicles.

For driving without lights or with bad lights, motorcycles will be fined Rs 500, cars or jeeps will be fined Rs 1000, and public service vehicle will be fined Rs 2000.

The police further said that the fine for driving on the wrong side of the road has also been increased for motorcycles to Rs 500, cars to Rs 1000, and public service vehicles to Rs 2000.

For tinted windows, the police have increased fine for cars to Rs 1500 and public service vehicle to Rs 2000.

The police have also increased traffic fines for document-related violations. For driving without a driving license, motorcycles will be fined Rs 1000, cars and jeeps will be fined Rs 2000, and public service vehicles will be fined Rs 5000.

For driving without a seat belt, the Mirpur traffic police have fixed Rs 1000 fine for cars and jeeps and Rs 100 for public service vehicles.

Simiarly, the fine for using a mobile phone while driving has also been hiked. Motorcycle driver will be get a fine of Rs 500, Rs 1000 for cars and Jeeps riders and Rs 3000 for public service vehicles.
