MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Muzaffarabad Traffic Police have initiated an awareness campaign to prevent motorcycle accidents. District Traffic Inspector Rizwan Dar distributed helmets to citizens, highlighting their significance.

According to details, under the vision of IG Police Rana Abdul Jabbar and the leadership of District Traffic Inspector Rizwan Dar, the Traffic Police distributed free helmets and pamphlets among motorcyclists at New Secretariat Chattar, Muzaffarabad.

Speaking to citizens on the occasion, Rizwan Dar stated that overspeeding and one-wheeling are extremely dangerous for human lives. Head injuries caused by not wearing helmets often result in fatalities.

He added that using mobile phones while driving is akin to inviting death. To avoid traffic accidents, a cautious and responsible attitude must be adopted to save precious lives. He further mentioned that, on the special instructions of DIG Traffic Police, hats were also distributed among traffic personnel to protect them from the intense heat.

Previously, a helmet awareness campaign was conducted by the traffic police of Neelum district to educate the residents and motorcycle riders in Neelum district upon the significance of helmets and the perils that come along with ignoring a helmet. The initiative was a component of wider road safety improvement strategy aimed at minimizing the traffic injuries in the region.

In the course of the campaign, traffic officers detained motorcyclists who were not wearing helmets and told them the life-saving effects of the protective headgear. Authorities had explained that the first phase was all about awareness, and stricter enforcement would be implemented on bikers who defied helmet safety rules.

The Neelum police launched the program to encourage safer road practices, especially amongst the young riders who ignored key safety measures most of the time. Officials had insisted on using helmets as not only a precaution but a legal responsibility for public safety.
