SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that the Jammu massacre of 1947 remains the worst example of genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC leaders paid rich tributes to the hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris who were martyred by the forces of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian Army, and armed Hindu extremists in different parts of the Jammu region while migrating to Pakistan during the first week of November 1947. Every year, Kashmiris mark November 6 as Jammu Martyrs’ Day to honour the victims of the carnage.

APHC leaders, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Saleem Zargar, Haseeb Wani, Samad Inqilabi, Yasmeen Raja, Hafiza Fehmida, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, Prof. Zubair, and others, in their separate statements in Srinagar, said that the Jammu massacre of 1947 was the most horrific incident in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that continues to haunt the people despite the passage of 78 years.

Jammu massacre darkest chapter in Kashmir’s history

They said that the massacre, orchestrated to change the Muslim-majority demography of the region, represents the darkest chapter in Kashmir’s history. The leaders added that the killing of Kashmiri Muslims, which began in 1947, continues unabated under the present Hindutva regime.

The APHC leaders maintained that the Jammu carnage serves as a grim reminder of the brutal and criminal face of Hindutva forces.

They said the scars of the gruesome massacre are still fresh in the memory of every Kashmiri and deplored that the same extremist mindset is now attempting to replicate the 1947 tragedy in the Kashmir Valley.

Reaffirming their commitment to the ongoing struggle, the leaders vowed that the unparalleled sacrifices of the Jammu martyrs would never be allowed to go in vain and that Kashmiris will continue their struggle until freedom from Indian occupation is achieved.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Young Men’s League (YML) leader Shahid Nabi, in a statement issued in Srinagar, strongly condemned the continued harassment and arrests of the relatives of the party’s Vice Chairman, Zahid Ashraf, by Indian forces and agencies.

He said that for the past two months, Zahid Ashraf’s family members have been subjected to daily raids, interrogations, and intimidation by Indian authorities—actions he described as a deliberate attempt to pressure and silence the leadership of pro-freedom political organizations in IIOJK.

In Islamabad, APHC-AJK leaders, in their separate statements, said that the same elements responsible for the 1947 Jammu massacre are now in power, and imposing Hindutva ideology on the people of Kashmir.

They reiterated that Kashmiris can never forget the heart-wrenching Jammu massacre and, despite Indian tyranny and oppression, will continue their struggle until complete freedom is achieved.
