MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Internet services have been restored in parts of Azad Kashmir following an announcement by Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani, bringing relief to residents after a prolonged suspension.
DSL and fixed-line internet services were restored in the capital Muzaffarabad as soon as the clock struck midnight.
Mobile internet services have also been restored in Mirpur and Bhimber, according to the announcement.
Social media users have urged citizens to avoid any provocative activity, saying internet services have returned after nearly three months and should be allowed to remain available.
The prolonged internet shutdown had caused significant difficulties for students, journalists, freelancers, businesses and ordinary citizens.
In Kotli district, DSL services have been restored for educational institutions, banks, civil administration, police and military offices.
DSL and 3G/4G services were already available in upper and lower areas of Neelum Valley and Lepi Valley, with no changes reported there.
However, internet services remain unavailable across the districts of Rawalakot and Sudhanoti, except for DSL access provided to selected institutions, including CMH Rawalakot, MTBC Hospital Abbaspur, the Assistant Commissioner’s Office Abbaspur and a billing company.
In Bagh, DSL services are currently available only in urban areas, including Bagh City, Dhirkot City, Naumanpura Town, and Hari Ghel Town.
In Haveli Kahuta, only DSL services are available across the district, while restrictions on 3G and 4G services remain in place.
