HAVELI (Kashmir English): Union Council Bhedi of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has been lacking basic facilities as locals face difficulties in their routine life.

The remote and most sensitive Union Council, Bhedi, is still deprived of basic necessities of life. Due to its extreme proximity to the LoC, the area remains under constant threat.

The lack of facilities is further increasing the problems of the people. The crisis of government buildings and educational institutions has intensified.

According to the local population, government building in the area are in dilapidated condition. There is a severe shortage of staff in government schools, while the absence of buildings has made the education process almost impossible.

Parents in the area said that hundreds of children are deprived of the basic right to education. “Our children want to study, but due to the lack of schools, their future is in darkness.”

Among AJK’s neglected areas

Similarly, there is no hospital, dispensary, or basic health centre in the Union Council. Even a minor illness becomes a major problem. It takes several hours for patients to reach other areas, due to which many incidents of not receiving timely medical aid have been reported. Women, children, and the elderly are the most affected.

The area remains under severe pressure due to its proximity to the Line of Control on all sides.

The threat of shelling, restrictions on movement, and constant fear are affecting the mental and social life of the people.

People have said that government should take immediate action to resolve public issues. Local residents have demanded from the Azad Kashmir government, district administration, and elected representatives that government buildings should be constructed immediately in Union Council Bhedi, schools should be established, and staff should be appointed.

A basic health center or at least a dispensary should be established. A special package be given to the LoC-affected area, and development projects should be started in the Union Council.

The public warned that if the government does not pay attention, future generations will also be forced to live in darkness.
