ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to approach the court against the formation of a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at Zardari House in Islamabad on Tuesday under the chairmanship of PPP Women Wing President and in-charge of the party’s AJK affairs, Faryal Talpur, according to the statement issued by PPP AJK.
The meeting was attended by Acting AJK President Chaudhry Latif Akbar, PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin, Chaudhry Muhammad Riaz, former AJK President Sardar Muhammad Yaqub Khan, and other senior party leaders and newly elected members of the legislative assembly.
Moreover, the statement issued by the party’s AJK chapter stated that the meeting also unanimously passed a resolution demanding transparent, free, and fair elections for the establishment of peace in the region.
The PPP leadership termed the recent AJK general elections as “rigged and violent” and described them as among the worst elections in the democratic and parliamentary history of the region.
Separately, a local media outlet, citing sources, reported that a meeting also decided that the PML-N government will not be allowed to function in the state under any circumstances, and it has been agreed to approach the High Court for a stay order.
“In the meeting, the members of the parliamentary party also demanded re-election in 3 constituencies of Kotli district and 2 of Muzaffarabad.”
“Polls in phases termed unconstitutional”
Moreover, the meeting, as per the statement, termed the process of holding elections in phases as unconstitutional and against the democratic system and also demanded that the Election Commission immediately complete the elections in the remaining two districts of the third phase and the remaining seven constituencies of Poonch Division.
The meeting also raised questions about the restoration of the internet, the absence of polling material and staff at polling stations, and poor security arrangements, the statement added.
“The meeting appreciated the full support and tireless efforts of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Ms. Faryal Talpur and thanked other central leaders of the party for their guidance.”
Addressing the meeting, Faryal Talpur said that the PPP is the representative party of the people of AJK and that the victory has been achieved with the full support of the people in the ongoing elections full of rigging.
She directed that the election preparations be further accelerated in the remaining seven constituencies, adding that “the politics of PPP is based on public service, democracy, development and protection of public rights.”
