RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Heavy rain in Rawalpindi has resulted in a deluge of Leh Nullah forcing authorities to issue evacuation orders to people living on the banks.
According to details, the water level at the Katarian point of Leh Nullah has surged past the 22-foot mark, leading to alarms in surrounding communities.
All rescue units have been put on standby as authorities closely watch the situation, and residents from threatened areas near Leh Nullah are being ordered to leave their houses.
Parts of Sadiqabad and Dhok Elahi Bakhsh areas of Rawalpindi have been inundated by floodwater. The Rawalpindi district administration has also demanded Army help in dealing with the emergency after Leh Nullah began to overflow its banks, the reports said.
Multiple key arteries, including Murree Road and Rawal Road, were rendered inaccessible due to severe waterlogging in the twin cities. With 113 mm rainfall, Golra recorded the highest in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi area.
Similarly, the overflowing waters of Nullah Bein following a torrent due to downpour in occupied Jammu and adjacent upper reaches, causing havoc in a dozen nearby villages and inundating the crops.
According to sources, a low-level flood prevails at Kalabagh, Guddu Barrage over the River Indus, but otherwise the flow in the remaining larger rivers is normal.
Heavy rain, wind and thundershower with isolated extremely heavy falls are expected at Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Galyat and peripheral regions over the next two to four hours.
Low-level flooding may occur in local nullahs of these regions, and public and administrative units are asked to remain aware and attentive in all these regions. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has recommended that all agencies responsible for issuing advisories remain ready and be alert.
