QUETTA (Kashmir English): The sit-in at Ziarat Cross came to an end after successful negotiations between Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and the protesters, leading to the reopening of the highway for all types of traffic.
Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti personally visited Ziarat Cross, where he met the participants of the sit-in, listened to their concerns and demands in detail, and announced immediate measures to address the issues raised by the protesters.
In the meetings, the chief minister set up a committee whose duty was to review the demands raised by the protesters and make practical recommendations on the way forward. In addition, he invited a delegation of the sit-in protesters to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to negotiate and discuss their concerns.
The chief minister assured the protesters that the government was willing to address their demands in accordance with laws of merit and justice.
Addressing the congregation, the chief minister observed that there were several challenges confronting Balochistan and hostile forces were trying to destabilize the region by attacking innocent civilians and interrupting economic activities.
He said that it was important to ensure national unity and solidarity in order to overcome such challenges.
Bugti stressed that the provincial government was committed to solving citizens’ problems through dialogue and trust and using constitutional and legal means.
He called upon the citizens to work in tandem with the state authorities without ignoring peace and harmony as well as national interests.
After the assurances by the chief minister and the positive progress in the negotiations, the protesters called off the sit-in and opened the highway to vehicular traffic.
