Karachi-bound plane goes missing over Arabian Sea

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A cargo plane en route from Sharjah to Karachi has gone missing approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi over the Arabian Sea, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said.

The  Pakistan Navy warship PNS Zulfiqar has been dispatched to the affected area, according to aviation sources.

A Pakistan Air Force SAAB aircraft is also participating in the search operation, sources said, while adding that a Pakistan Navy ATR aircraft has also taken off from Turbat and joined the search operation.

The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation’s commercial ship Lahore has also been deployed for the search and rescue operation.

Earlier, as per details, the K2 Airways plane, flight KTA-1732 with five crew members on board, disappeared after losing contact while flying near Ormara in Balochistan.

“The flight en route reported a navigational system issue at 2118 PST and was promptly guided by Karachi Area Control Center (ACC),” the statement added.

Sources said that the pilot had reported a navigation problem during the flight and requested heading assistance from  Air Traffic Control (ATC).

On which the plane was instructed to maintain the current direction. Later, the communication with the aircraft was interrupted.

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said that the Rescue Coordination Centre was activated and a coordinated Search and Rescue operation at sea was launched through various agencies to locate the missing aircraft.
