MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): After the completion of the first phase of the general elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, preparations are complete for the first session of the newly elected members.

The newly elected members of the assembly will take the oath in the first session, while elections for 7 reserved seats of the house will also be held today, for which a regular schedule has been issued.

There will be a contest between 6 candidates for 5 reserved seats for women. After Shaheen Kausar Dar withdrew her nomination papers, the number of candidates for women’s seats has come down to 6.

A total of 7 candidates had submitted their nomination papers for these seats.

The contest for the reserved seats for women will be between Riffat Abid, Zubia Khurshid, Sehrish Qamar, Farzana Yaqoob, Maryam Idrees and Maryam Zaman.

Two candidates are also in the fray for one seat reserved for Ulema and Mashaikh. The contest for this seat will be between Hafiz Tariq Mahmood and Muhammad Mazhar Saeed.

Syed Iftikhar Gilani and Sahibzada Zulfiqar Ali will face each other on a reserved seat for technocrats and professionals.

On the other hand, the uncontested election phase for the seat reserved for overseas state residents has been completed.

Polling for the reserved seats for women, technocrats, Ulema and Mashaikh will be held tomorrow at the Assembly Hall in Muzaffarabad.

The polling process will begin at 10 am and continue till 1 pm.
