ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to observe Youm-e-Takbeer on Wednesday, May 28, to commemorate the series of nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan to become a nuclear power.

The government has not yet officially issued a notification regarding the public holiday to mark the day, however, the federal government has published a holiday schedule for 2025, confirming that May 28, 2025, will be a public holiday.
As a result, all government offices, educational institutions, and most private businesses will remain closed.
Earlier, the Cabinet Division’s official circular also listed other major national holidays such as Pakistan Day, Independence Day, and religious holidays.
According to the circular, two holidays were scheduled in May, out of which the holiday on May 01 has already been observed.
What happened on Youm-e-Takbeer?
This day commemorates the Chagai-I and Chagai-II series of nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, in Chaghi, Balochistan, which made Pakistan the first Muslim country and the seventh in the world to possess nuclear weapons.
Youm-e-Takbeer is seen as a moment of national pride, celebrated to honor the country’s scientific and defense advancements. Each year, the day is marked by ceremonies, political speeches, and media tributes recognizing the efforts of scientists and leadership behind the achievement.
