Weather update: Strong winds, rain expected in Azad Kashmir

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted strong winds and light to moderate rainfall in Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

However, intense heat and humid conditions are predicted to continue in most other districts of the country. Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to remain partly cloudy, with strong winds and thundershowers expected in the afternoon and evening or night.

There is a strong possibility of strong winds and thundershowers at a few places in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and northeast Punjab and eastern Balochistan on Wednesday night and Thursday.

At present, humid winds from the Arabian Sea are entering the upper and central parts of the country, while weak westerly winds are present in the northern parts of the country.

Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad Weather Update

Rain accompanied by strong winds, gusty winds and thundershowers was recorded at a few places in Kashmir, Islamabad, upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan during the last 24 hours. 46 mm of rain was recorded in Garhi Dupatta area of ​​Kashmir, while 8 mm of rain was recorded in Saidpur area of ​​Islamabad and 1 mm of rain was recorded in Golra.

The federal capital Islamabad and its surroundings are expected to be partly cloudy on Wednesday night, with a 35 percent chance of rain at a few places.

The weather in Islamabad is expected to remain hot and humid on Thursday; however, there is a 30 percent chance of strong winds and thundershowers in the evening or night.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab Weather Update

The weather will remain hot and humid in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while rain with strong winds has been predicted in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Peshawar, Kurram, Kohat and Waziristan in the evening or night.

During the last 24 hours, 8 mm of rain was recorded in Kakul area of ​​Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3 mm in Malam Jabba, and 2 mm in Dir and Parachinar.

The weather will remain hot and humid in most districts of Punjab, but in the evening or night, thundershowers may occur at a few places in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara and surrounding areas.

The highest rainfall yesterday was recorded in the Toba Tek Singh area of ​​Punjab at 63 mm, 16 at Sialkot Airport, while 4 mm was recorded in Murree and Okara.

Sindh, Balochistan Weather Update

Hot and humid weather will also continue in most districts of Sindh and Balochistan; however, severe fog will remain in the central and upper districts of Sindh while rain may occur in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Thatta, Sanghar, Dadu and Karachi in the evening or night.

Rain is also expected at a few places in Awaran, Khuzdar, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel and Kohlu areas of Balochistan with strong winds and thunderstorms. During the last 24 hours, 5 mm of rain was recorded in Zhob and Khuzdar while 4 mm was recorded in Barkhan.

The hottest area in the country yesterday was Nokkundi, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 46 degrees Celsius. In addition, 45 degrees Celsius was recorded in Sibi and Dalbandin, 43 degrees Celsius in Dadu and 42 degrees Celsius in Bhakkar.
