LAHORE (Kashmir English): The situation with gas load shedding has drastically raised the cost of LPG in Lahore. Because of this, consumers are suffering extremely financially.
Although the government has set the official price of LPG at Rs. 254 per kg, sellers charge between Rs. 380 and Rs. 520 per kg in different areas of the city.
Citizens claimed that the gas shortage has made them dependent on LPG. Meanwhile, the authorities have not succeeded in implementing the official rates.
They also claimed that LPG sellers charge customers differently in different parts of the city. This means that consumers pay much more for this commodity.
Consumers also complained that they do not receive enough gas supply but continue paying their gas bills. In addition, costly LPG prices are affecting household budgets. Therefore, citizens requested the government to implement the rules regulating LPG prices.
Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs 12.89 per kg from August and the tariffs for re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) for July.
According to the OGRA notification, the cost of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder has increased by Rs 152.01, fixing it at Rs 3,000.92 from Rs 2,848.91. The new price of LPG per kg has been fixed at Rs 254.32.
Under the revised LPG pricing, the consumer rate has been fixed at Rs254,315.35 per tonne for August, compared with Rs241,432.84 per tonne in July.
The new LPG prices will be applicable for August, the notification added.
Separately, the regulatory authority announced higher RLNG transmission and distribution tariffs for July 2026 for both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).
For SNGPL, the transmission tariff increased 32.12% to $23.7020 per MMBtu, while the distribution tariff rose 32.35% to $25.8388 per MMBtu.
SSGCL’s transmission tariff was raised 35.78% to $22.2251 per MMBtu, and its distribution tariff increased 34.62% to $25.0872 per MMBtu.
After the increase in the price of LPG, a further financial burden has been transferred on domestic consumers already affected by hiked fuel prices.
It should be noted that LPG is used as an important fuel for cooking in many areas of the country, especially in areas where natural gas facilities are not available.
The price changes by OGRA are made taking into account the prices of LPG in the global market and other factors.
