MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains with strong winds and thunderstorms in the upper areas, including Azad Kashmir, from August 29 to September 5.
In view of the rains, the Disaster Management Authorities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also issued alerts to the relevant institutions and district administrations.
According to the Met Department, monsoon winds are entering the upper areas, while a wave of westerly winds is also likely to enter the upper areas of the country from August 31, which may persist until September 5.
Intermittent rains with strong winds and thunderstorms are likely in Azad Kashmir from the evening or night of August 28 to September 6, while heavy rain may also persist in several areas.
Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sidhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur are among the affected areas.
Punjab and KPK
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Hafizabad are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms from August 29 to September 5.
Thunderstorms have also been predicted in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 29 to September 5.
Rain is expected in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur.
According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent rain is expected in Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Waziristan from September 1 to 4.
Similarly, intermittent rain and thundershowers are expected in Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ganchhe and Shigar areas of Gilgit-Baltistan from August 30 to September 6.
The Meteorological Department says that the weather is likely to remain hot and humid in most areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
The Met Department has warned that there is a risk of urban flooding due to heavy rain in the low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot and Lahore from August 31 to September 5.
The possibility of flash floods has also been expressed in the local rivers of Azad Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to heavy rain.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is also a risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
