KARACHI: The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) predicted that the Muharram-ul-Haram is expected to start on June 26, 2025, because of the high chances of moon sighting of the first Islamic month on Thursday.

The SUPARCO spokesperson said that the new moon is expected to be born on June 25, 2025, at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time. By the evening of June 26, at sunset, the moon will be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes old, which is an ideal age for visibility under clear weather conditions.

Latest data shows the duration between sunset and moonset in Pakistan’s coastal regions will be around 75 minutes, offering optimal conditions for moon sighting. Clear skies across much of the country are also expected to aid visibility.

If the moon is sighted on June 26, the first day of Muharram 1447 Hijri will fall on Friday, June 27, 2025.

It may be mentioned here that the police and other law enforcement agencies have made strict security arrangements for Muharram, and especially of Ashura across the country. The mobile services are likely to remain suspended on the processions routes, gatherings and Imambargahs.
