JHELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): In light of the current national situation and the upcoming month of Muharram, Section 144 has been enforced across Jhelum Valley to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. The decision was announced by Deputy Commissioner Beenish Jarral on the recommendation of the District Superintendent of Police.

Under Section 144, a ban has been placed on several activities that may disturb the peace.

The ban includes:

  • Display of weapons

  • Unnecessary use of loudspeakers

  • Distribution of hate-inciting advertisements, literature, books, banners

  • Wall chalking

  • Provocative images

  • Playing music in public transport vehicles

The district administration stated that these measures are aimed at preventing any form of religious or sectarian tension during Muharram. The deputy commissioner emphasised that the orders under Section 144 are being implemented to maintain harmony and avoid any incidents that could disturb the peace.

“No individual or group will be allowed to violate these directives. Anyone found displaying weapons, using loudspeakers without permission, or distributing hate-inciting material will face strict legal action,” said DC Beenish Jarral. She further added that any violation of this order will result in action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The administration has urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activity. Special monitoring teams will also be active throughout the district to ensure compliance with Section 144.

Public transport operators have been warned not to play music in their vehicles, while religious and political groups have been instructed to refrain from displaying any provocative content.

The enforcement of Section 144 is expected to remain in place throughout Muharram, and any extension will be announced by the district authorities based on the situation.
