MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Kashmir police have taken disciplinary action against two officials of the Civil Secretariat Police Station, Muzaffarabad, for misconduct and corruption.
As per details, SHO Raja Sohail Khan has been made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), while Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tanzeel Siddique has been suspended from service for taking bribes from an influential person.
According to sources, SHO Raja Sohail Khan was framed into the case for arresting the Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister’s House, Arif Butt, for alleged involvement in immoral activities. Later, another employee of the Information Department who was connected to the same case was also arrested.
During the investigation, the employee of the Information Department also named influential political figures under whose shadow the employee was working.
While sources said that ASI Tanzeel arrested relatives of an influential figure for possessing alcohol.
According to the order issued by the Central Police Office, Muzaffarabad, ASI Tanzeel Siddique demanded Rs5 lakh as a bribe for granting bail to an accused, Faisal Javed, arrested in the Civil Secretariat Police Station. After negotiations with the accused’s relative, Danish Bashir, the amount was reduced to Rs2 lakh, but the ASI allegedly tortured the accused when the money was not paid.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarabad District, suspended ASI Tanzeel Siddique from service and sent a separate letter to the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Department for taking action under the Anti-Corruption Act.
Taking further action, SHO Sohail has been transferred immediately to the central police office for poor command and control.
The Inspector General of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, which will be conducted by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Region Muzaffarabad. The DIG is required to submit a detailed report within three days.
