KABUL (Kashmir English): Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shahpur Zadran has passed away at the age of 38 after a prolonged illness.
According to reports, Shahpur Zadran had been undergoing treatment in New Delhi, India, for several health complications, including cancer. He died on July 7, just one day before his 39th birthday.
Standing over six feet tall, Shahpur was widely recognized for his aggressive fast bowling, energetic on-field presence, and his distinctive long, flowing hair. During his international career, he represented Afghanistan in 44 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 36 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Before making his mark on the international stage, Shahpur lived as a refugee in Peshawar, Pakistan, where he began his cricket journey. His early cricketing companions included fellow Afghanistan stars Mohammad Nabi, Asghar Afghan, and Daulat Zadran.
Shahpur Zadran played an important role during Afghanistan’s rise in international cricket and is remembered as one of the country’s pioneering fast bowlers.
His death has prompted tributes from the cricketing community, with fans and former teammates mourning the loss of a player who helped shape Afghanistan’s cricketing journey.
