RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): The elected representatives of the Municipal Corporation Rawalakot have strongly protested the decision to transfer the regional office of the AJK BISE Mirpur from Rawalakot, the divisional headquarters of Poonch.
An emergency meeting was held at the Municipal Corporation Office, where Mayor Sardar Abdul Naeem Khan, Deputy Mayor Qazi Nisar, and other representatives expressed their serious concerns.
The representatives said that the regional office of the education board is a major source of convenience for thousands of students, parents, teachers, and educational institutions in the Poonch division.
The representatives made it clear that closing this office or shifting it to another location is tantamount to “anti-Poonch”. This move would be tantamount to reducing educational facilities and pushing the public into difficulties, they maintained.
The elected councilors have appealed to the Prime Minister Anwarul Haq, Education Minister Dewan Ali Khan Chughtai, and Chairman of the AJK education board to intervene and cancel the decision.
They demand that the current office be maintained and not shifted to another location. The councilors also demand practical steps to further improve the performance of the office, providing modern and timely facilities to students.
Mayor Rawalakot Sardar Abdul Naeem Khan said that if the decision is not withdrawn, the Municipal Corporation will launch a full-scale public protest.
The Deputy Mayor added that the decision seems to be a part of an anti-education policy, which is unacceptable.
He demanded that not only the current office be maintained, but also practical steps be taken to further improve its performance so that students can get modern and timely facilities.
