RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): Two security personnel were seriously injured in firing by Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) miscreants in Rawalakot on Monday, security officials said.
As per the initial report, Rawalakot Police Constable Muhammad Zubair and Punjab Rangers official Asif sustained serious bullet injuries. Asif was reported to be unconscious.
The violent clashes occurred after supporters of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (AAC) began a march towards Muzaffarabad on the day of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections being held in Mirpur Division.
The sources alleged that armed individuals among the protesters opened fire after security forces attempted to stop the march.
They further claimed that women and children were used as shields during the confrontation.
Authorities said the situation remained tense and that further details regarding the incident and any additional casualties were being gathered.
