ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The sudden emergence of a shadowy militant group, calling itself Tehreek-e-Taliban Kashmir (TTK) and claiming operations in both Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), has raised serious concerns among security analysts and Kashmir watchers.
According to Kashmir Media Service, TTK in its official statement presents itself as an “independent resistance group”, advocating for the “complete independence of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan”, a goal it claims is rooted in religious ideology.
However, its actions tell a different story. By primarily targeting Pakistan’s military, state institutions, and the stability of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, TTK appears to mirror the objectives of India’s intelligence agency, RAW.
Group is designed to destabilise Azad Kashmir
Analysts believe that TTK is a fabricated proxy outfit orchestrated by RAW and the group is designed to undermine Pakistan, destabilize AJK, and delegitimize the legitimate and indigenous freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation.
They note that TTK’s activities mirror the tactics long associated with other Indian-backed proxies like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
India has been backing the BLA to destabilise Pakistan, and the TTK’s emerging footprint in AJK follows the same proxy template that is to kill/abduct innocent citizens and plan false flag operations in IIOJK on RAW’s behest to blame Pakistan, and then shaping narrative to blame Pakistan the same.
“TTK is not a grassroots movement, but an intelligence operation dressed in ideological clothing,” said a senior security analyst.
“Its statements invoke Maqbool Bhat’s name and ideology to validate movement and lure easily influenced Kashmiri youth under a fabricated ideological banner.”
“By manufacturing terrorist groups like TTK, New Delhi wants to project an image of internal chaos in AJK and blur the line between genuine freedom movements and foreign-backed militancy,” said a political analyst.
TTK’s accusations are mainly directed against Pakistan’s security forces notwithstanding the plight of Kashmiris in IIOJK.
However, Kashmiris are cognizant of the fact that Pakistan’s government and security forces have always supported Kashmiris just stance globally.
Analysts say that India wants to divert global attention from its own human rights abuses in IIOJK by creating and supporting proxies like the TTK. They also believe that after the strategic failure of Operation Sindoor, India is expanding its proxy network in Pakistan, especially in AJK on the lines of BLA with the aim of undermining the internal stability of AJK, where political autonomy and democratic expression have challenged Indian claims.
