MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Mirpur Police have busted an inter-provincial gang of robbers involved in several robberies for a long time in Dadyal and recovered looted money and illegal weapons, police said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference in Mirpur today, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur, Khurram Iqal, said that police used modern technology and scientific investigation techniques to successfully trace and arrest the accused.
The SSP Mirpur said that on May 11, 2025, three armed men entered the house and looted gold bangles, earrings, and cash worth Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 at gunpoint in Kheri Bala, Dadyal.
During the investigation, SHO Dadyal Zohaib Tahir arrested Qasim Ali, a plumber by profession, on whose disclosure several co-accused were arrested from Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Dipalpur, Gujrat, and Vehari.
The arrested accused include Usman, Muhammad Naseer alias Saleem, Zafar Ali, Yasir, and Ali Akbar.
According to the police, the plumber used to provide information to his colleagues by scouting for immigrants and financially stable families during his work.
Police also revealed that the same gang was involved in another robbery on February 5, 2025, in Sochani, Dadyal, where they looted gold ornaments and cash at gunpoint.
Additionally, the gang was found involved in a 2024 robbery targeting the house of an Overseas Pakistani, from where cash, British pounds, and expensive mobile phones were stolen.
So far, police have recovered Rs 2.1 million in looted property, along with two Kalashnikovs, two 30-bore pistols, two 12-bore rifles, ammunition, cartridges, and magazines.
Separate cases under the Unlawful Arms Act have been registered against the accused, SSP told reporters, adding that further investigation is underway with the accused and more revelations are expected.
Separately, SSP Mirpur also confirmed that police have arrested an accused, who allegedly killed his wife by setting her on fire following a domestic dispute in Sanwala Piran on January 13. A murder case has been registered under relevant sections, and the investigation is ongoing, he said.
SSP Khurram Iqbal praised DSP Dadyal Sardar Babar Rafique, SHO Zohaib Tahir, and their team for their tireless efforts, stating that despite limited resources, Mirpur Police continue to work day and night to maintain law and order.
Furthermore, he added that Mirpur Police have also recovered Rs 7.6 million and a vehicle worth Rs 12.5 million in fake visa and fraud cases and returned them to the victims so far in the current year.
“Mirpur is a peaceful district, and there is no room for criminals here. Strict action will continue against all criminal elements without discrimination,” the SSP concluded.
