SWAT (Kashmir English): Earthquake tremors were felt in the Swat region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its surrounding areas, causing panic among residents and prompting them to rush out of their homes and buildings.

According to the seismological center, the earthquake in Swat and adjacent areas measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. It originated at a depth of 80 kilometers, with its epicenter located in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

As the tremors were felt, anxiety spread among residents in various areas, and frightened individuals moved to safer locations; however, initial reports indicate no loss of life or property damage.

Authorities have advised citizens to observe precautionary measures in the event of an emergency. The local situation is also being assessed following the quake.

It is worth noting that tremors were also felt last month in various parts of the country, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Swabi, Shangla, and Mardan. That earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 187 kilometers and an epicenter in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

According to experts, the Earth’s crust consists of various large tectonic plates; the movement of these underground plates or changes within them causes vibrations in the ground, a phenomenon known as an earthquake.

While the recent tremors in Swat caused fear among residents, no reports of major damage have emerged so far.
