ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has described the Makkah Alliance as a purely defensive arrangement based on collective deterrence, saying the pact contains no offensive or aggressive element.

Speaking to Al Arabiya English, the DG ISPR said the alliance formalises a strategic relationship in a particular regional environment. He said a plain reading of the agreement, made public by the three governments, showed it was based on collective deterrence and had “no offensive, no interference, no aggressive element.”

Turning to Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the Iran-US conflict, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said Pakistan’s political and military leadership has been reaching out to all parties to encourage dialogue and prevent the situation from being resolved through military means.

Pakistan Army spokesperson has reiterated the country’s resolve to continue counterterrorism operations against attacks originating from Afghan territory.

The spokesperson said Pakistan would maintain its efforts to counter threats and attacks emanating from Afghanistan.
