ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s energy supply chain received another boost after the LNG tanker Fuwairit from Qatar successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz and entered Pakistani territorial waters.

According to officials, the LNG vessel is expected to dock at the Engro LNG Terminal either today (Tuesday) or tomorrow (Wednesday), May 26 or 27.

The vessel, sailing under ‌the Bahamas flag, loaded LNG at Qatar’s Ras Laffan port around March 28.

Senior officials from Pakistan’s Petroleum Division confirmed that another LNG shipment is also scheduled to arrive in the coming days and will dock at the Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited (PGPL) terminal.

The situation reflects the fact that Islamabad is taking emergency measures to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply amid the rising demand for electricity during the scorching summer and the tense situation in the Gulf region.

The arrival of the Fuwairit is the third consecutive LNG shipment from Qatar in less than two weeks.

Earlier, on May 15, the LNG carrier “Mehzam”, carrying about 160,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, docked at PGPL Terminal 12 in Port Qasim. Two days earlier, on May 13, the Q-Flex LNG ship “Al-Kharaatiyat” arrived at the Engro terminal.

According to energy sector officials, these consecutive arrivals show that Pakistan is relying on long-term LNG contracts with Qatar at a time when prices in the global spot market are rising rapidly due to geopolitical uncertainties, shipping risks, and concerns about supply disruptions due to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
