MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, has demanded that the AJK Legislative Assembly be dissolved and new elections be held to restore political stability and public confidence in the region.
Addressing events in Muzaffarabad, Dr. Mushtaq stated that the 53-member group, referring to the current assembly, has failed to exercise its right to govern effectively.
“These members have miserably failed in fulfilling their responsibilities. Only new elections can bring stability to the base camp,” he asserted.
He emphasized that the assembly has lost its moral and political right to rule.
“It is rightly my demand that the Prime Minister dissolve this assembly and return the right to govern to the people of Azad Kashmir. Fresh elections must be held to secure a new public mandate,” he added.
Dr. Mushtaq said that the challenges faced by the unemployed youth, the struggling patients in hospitals, and the hardships of women in Azad Kashmir can only be addressed through a new and legitimate government formed by a fresh mandate.
Criticizing political interference, he alleged that decisions regarding Azad Kashmir’s mandate were being made in Bilawal House, the Prime Minister’s House of Pakistan, and the President’s House.
“These efforts to manipulate the will of the Kashmiri people are unacceptable,” he remarked.
He stressed that the future of Azad Kashmir must be decided within the region itself, keeping in view its unique political and social environment.
“If external forces attempt to influence political outcomes, it will only deepen instability in the region — something Azad Kashmir cannot afford,” Dr. Mushtaq concluded.
