ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Khalid Mahmood, former captain of the country’s hockey team, died at the age of 84 after suffering from a prolonged illness.
As per the son of Khalid, the funeral prayer will take place today in Faisalabad.
Khalid Mahmood was born on December 28, 1941, in the city of Jhelum, and he was a part of the Pakistani hockey teams that brought several championships for the country on both the international and Asian fronts.
He was part of the team that played at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964; the Pakistani team won the silver medal at the event. Khalid played in the position of right-out on the national side.
He also played at the 1966 Asian Games, where the national team won its second silver medal in a row. Khalid Mahmood played for Pakistan again at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968, where the national team clinched its first gold medal.
