ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup has created history on more occasions than one, and the same would be expected in the final between India and South Africa.
After South Africa eased past England to book their place in the final, hosts India turned in an equally impressive effort against historically defending champions Australia to reach only their third Women’s ODI World Cup final appearance.
The winner between the two will not only make history as first-time champions, but the final is historic for one other reason: the upcoming match on Sunday will be the first Women’s ODI World Cup final without either England or Australia in it.
One of these two countries has played in the final of this event ever since its inception in 1973, with Australia winning the tournament seven times and England having won the title four times. New Zealand is the only other women’s cricket team to win the World Cup, which they did back in 2000.
Whoever lifts the trophy, one thing’s clear: the 2025 final will mark the beginning of a new era, whereby cricket’s biggest stage no longer belongs to just two nations.
This isn’t just a final without England and Australia; it’s a final that redefines the future of world cricket.
