ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has increased fares by 5 percent due to skyrocketing prices of petroleum products.
Addressing the media regarding the increase, the president of the Alliance, Malik Shehzad Awan stated that the fluctuations in prices of petroleum were totally unjustifiable.
He appealed to the government to withdraw its decision regarding such price adjustments, which hurt the interests of road transporters.
“We are declaring a further hike of 5 percent in the charges of road transportation of goods. It is pertinent to mention that the rate of diesel has been increased by Rs20 while petrol prices have gone up by Rs24 per liter in the last four days,” Malik Shehzad Awan declared.
Furthermore, he demanded that if there is no option left but to increase the price of petroleum products, the government should give concessions to road transporters on withholding tax and toll tax among others.
Earlier, transporters of Pakistan went on strike from August 8, 2023, to August 17, 2023, over their demands. Their strike was withdrawn after reaching some understanding with the concerned parties.
