ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A spell of heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and adjoining areas on Monday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief to citizens after days of scorching heat.
The sudden downpour caused a sharp drop in temperatures, turning the weather pleasant within hours.
The scattered rain, windstorm, and thunderstorm in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other cities of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are expected from Monday evening, July 6, to July 8.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rainfall, windstorms, and thunderstorms across most of the country over the coming days, raising concerns about urban flooding in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously penetrating the upper parts of the country, while moist currents from the Bay of Bengal are also expected to enter northeastern parts from Monday evening,” the Met Office said.
In addition, a westerly wave is expected to approach the upper parts of the country by Monday night.
Rain, thunderstorm forecast
In Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, scattered rain, windstorms, and thundershowers are expected from Monday night to Wednesday, with occasional gaps.
Scattered rain, windstorm, and thundershower (with isolated heavyfalls) is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Okara, Kasur from July 6, to July 8, while in Noor Pur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur on July 7, to July 8 with occasional gaps.
In KP, scattered rain, windstorms, and thundershowers, accompanied by isolated heavy rainfall, are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, and Hangu from July 6 until July 8.
In Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan, these weather conditions are expected to begin from tomorrow instead.
“Rain windstorm, thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit-Blatistan’s Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar on July 7 and 8 with occasional gaps,” the press release added.
Furthermore, in Balochistan, isolated rain, windstorms, and thundershowers are expected in the north/northeastern parts of Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Musakhel, Naseerabad, Harnai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, and Khuzdar from July 7 to July 8.
“Mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most parts of the province,” the Met Office said, adding that isolated rain, windstorm, and thundershower are likely in Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Naushahro Feroze on July 7 and 8.
