ISLAMABAD(Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of heavy rains in different parts of the country from July 6 to July 10.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, a weather system is entering northern Pakistan, due to which there is a strong possibility of rain in the upper parts of the country.
According to the NDMA’s assessment of the weather situation, heavy rains are expected in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad from July 7 to 10.
In addition, thundershowers have also been predicted in the Potohar region and areas of northeastern Punjab.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, rains are also expected in the upper adjoining areas of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.
The NDMA spokesperson has warned that heavy rains are likely to trigger landslides in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The NDMA further said that there may be a sudden increase in the flow of water in mountain rivers and small rain drains, which may lead to local flooding in sensitive upper areas. There is also a possibility of flooding in urban areas and inundation of low-lying areas.
According to the NDMA, due to the rains, a slight increase in the flow of water in the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers is expected.
However, given the current weather conditions, there is no threat of large-scale river flooding at present. As a result of the rains, a slight increase in the inflow of water into Tarbela and Mangla dams is also expected.
The NDMA has directed the concerned district administrations and institutions to remain on high alert so that any emergency can be dealt with in time.
The public has also been requested to avoid unnecessary travel and take caution when going near rain drains.
