ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department has issued an alert predicting strong winds, thunderstorms, and light rain in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other districts of the country.
According to media reports, currently most parts of the country are experiencing extreme heat and humidity, which is causing great concern to the citizens; however, now after the new forecast made by the Meteorological Department, there is a strong expectation of a decrease in temperature and pleasant weather.
The Meteorological Department says that the weather in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to be partly cloudy, with thunder and strong winds at a few places.
Weather in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad
According to the Meteorological Department report, there are chances of cloudbursts and strong winds in the regions of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, which is expected to improve the weather.
On the other hand, the weather in the federal capital Islamabad and its surroundings will remain hot and humid during the day, while strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening.
Meteorologists say that intermittent rain may continue at some places in Kashmir and other highlands and plains during the next few days, which is likely to bring a significant reduction in the intensity of the scorching heat; however, citizens need to take precautionary measures during bad weather conditions.
Rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab
According to the report of the Meteorological Department, the weather will generally remain hot and humid in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; however, strong winds, thunderstorms and rain are likely in various areas of the province including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram and Orakzai after noon.
On the other hand, it has been reported regarding Punjab that the heat and humidity conditions are predicted to continue in most districts of the province, but despite this, strong winds and thunderstorms may occur in Murree, Galiyat, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal in the evening hours.
Weather conditions in Sindh and Balochistan
The Meteorological Department says that the weather will remain extremely hot and humid in most districts of Sindh, while the weather in the coastal areas of the province is likely to be partly cloudy.
Similarly, extreme heat will continue in most areas of Balochistan; however, strong winds, thunderstorms and rain have been predicted in Khuzdar and its surroundings in the evening and night.
In the report, giving the rainfall data for the last 24 hours, the Meteorological Department clarified that rain with strong winds and thunderstorms was recorded in various areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan, with the highest rainfall recorded in Malam Jabba, a tourist destination in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at 16 mm, while Parachinar recorded 14 mm.
Wind and lightning alert
The Meteorological Department has warned citizens in its alert that strong winds, gusts and lightning may damage weak structures, thatched roofs, trees, electricity poles and signboards, so all citizens should take precautionary measures.
Along with this, citizens have been specially instructed to completely avoid unnecessary travel and stay in safe places during bad weather.
