TAXILA (Kashmir English): Police have arrested five suspects, including the father, brother and cousins of female TikToker Ayesha Gilamana, also known as Shamsoo Bibi, in connection with her murder in Taxila, Rawalpindi, with investigators alleging that she was killed in the name of honour.
Addressing a news conference, SSP Operations Rawalpindi Tariq Mehboob said police had solved the murder case of Ayesha Gilamana, who was shot dead in Taxila on the evening of August 14.
According to the police official, Ayesha was allegedly killed by her father and brother, while her cousins were also involved in the crime.
Police identified the arrested suspects as father Fazal, brother Bashir, cousin Ehsan, father’s uncle Rozi Khan, and Yaseen, son of the cousin. All five are presently in police custody.
Police said they identified the suspects with the help of 100 CCTV footage and other technological evidence. The main suspects and two alleged shooters have also been arrested.
The operation was carried out under the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, who constituted multiple special teams to investigate the case. The teams kept the CPO updated with real-time, moment-by-moment progress reports throughout the investigation.
Tariq Mehboob said that Ayesha’s sister and brother were also injured during the firing.
Preliminary findings suggest the murder was carried out in the name of so-called “honour,” although police spokesperson said further investigation could bring additional facts to light.
Ayesha Gilamana was killed on August 14. Police subsequently registered a case at the Taxila police station, and an investigation is underway.
Police are continuing efforts to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the role of all those allegedly involved in the case.
