ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Former Pakistan Test captain and pacer Wasim Akram has reacted strongly to the fake rumors circulating on social media about his death for the past few days.
Dismissing the claims in a video message, he said that the hoax should have been easy for anyone to spot, adding that if people don’t understand fake news in this day and age, then forget about us, 60-year-olds, getting it.
His clarification came after an AI-generated video featuring cricketing legends Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, and Babar Azam falsely claimed that legend Wasim Akram had died of a heart attack. The video quickly went viral on social media, causing concern among fans.
The viral clip doctored Shoaib Akhtar’s voice and face to spread false news of Akram’s sudden death. The video immediately gained attention on social media, and many people believed the news to be true.

“21-gun salute for those asking me on social media if I am alive or not. No, I am making this video after death,” he sarcastically said.
He further added, “If these people used their minds on something productive, they would be very successful in life. But there is a Punjabi saying that loading a donkey with books does not make it a scholar.”
Earlier, Wasim Akram’s wife, Shaniera Akram, also reacted quickly to the reports by sharing a video on Instagram featuring Wasim Akram working out in the gym.
She said that, contrary to the news circulating on social media, “Wasim is completely healthy”.
“In response to the FAKE news and AI videos circulating, I just took this video for you, and as you can see, he is in the gym and seems to be ok,” Shaniera captioned the post.
Social media users said that such AI-generated videos are not only misleading but also create unnecessary anxiety among family, friends, and fans of Wasim Akram.
