ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved abolishing the condition of 5 liters of petrol on one token for citizens to avail of the Prime Minister’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said that the relief scheme has been expanded to provide concessions to more motorcycle, rickshaw and Chingchi users across Pakistan, with petrol being supplied at a subsidised rate under the programme.
Under the latest decision, motorcycles, Qingqi and rickshaws that require less than five litres of petrol for refuelling will also receive a weekly concession of Rs500 against one token per week.
The statement further added that a total of four tokens will be available to eligible users each month.
“The decision was taken by the Prime Minister after receiving feedback from different parts of the country regarding the implementation of the relief programme.”
Under the existing arrangement, eligible vehicles up to 800cc will continue to receive a concession of Rs100 per litre on 10 litres of petrol every 10 days. Three tokens of 10 litres each will therefore continue to be issued to eligible users during a month.
The prime minister had earlier directed that the registration process for eligible beneficiaries should be completely free of charge. He had also ordered the inclusion of motorcycles, rickshaws and Chingchi rickshaws that are up to 20 years old in the fuel relief programme.
Registration message free
Moreover, it stated that the Prime Minister has already announced that the registration message will be completely free for the citizens who are willing to avail the subsidized petrol.
The statement further added that motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi registered after January 1, 2006, are also eligible for registration under the scheme.
The PMO said the prime minister is personally monitoring implementation of the relief programme and has directed authorities to expand its beneficiary base and ensure smooth, convenient and uninterrupted provision of the petrol concession to eligible citizens.
Addressing a press conference today, the Ministry for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima, said that 91.6 percent of the registered vehicles in the scheme are 2- and 3-wheelers, while the registration ratio for vehicles up to 800cc is 8.4 percent.
Shaza said that fuel tokens have been issued to 1.49 million citizens so far under the fuel scheme and that 0.65 million citizens have received fuel so far. She appealed to the public not to share their personal information with anyone to avoid any fraud.
