ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The monsoon season is forecasted to start in the country from July 1 by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The initial spell is expected to hit north-eastern areas of Pakistan, comprising Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per Anjum Nazir of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rainfall is expected in the northern regions of Pakistan along with north-eastern regions of Punjab with monsoon season entering the country.
According to him, at present, there are no indications of monsoon arriving in Sindh and there is no rainfall expected in the province till July 5.
Regarding the weather in Karachi, Anjum Nazir said that there can be rainfall in Sindh, especially in Karachi owing to the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
However, below average rainfall will be expected in Sindh, especially in Karachi during the present monsoon season. It was also revealed that India received 43 per cent less rainfall in June.
In contrast, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of the possible eruption of glacial lakes in upper districts of the country.
There are concerns raised by PDMA over the fast melting of glaciers in these areas due to high temperature and extreme heat.
As per the PDMA, orders have been issued to the district administrations of Upper Swat, Chitral, Swat, Upper Dir, Kohistan, and Mansehra for preventive actions.
Moreover, the PDMA has said that district administrations of glacial zones have been asked to be on high alert. Rescue organizations and their machinery have also been ordered to keep themselves ready all the time.
