ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert in view of the risk of rains and potential flooding in various areas of the country, including Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan.
According to NDMA, a new spell of rain is likely to start in the upper catchment areas of the rivers of Punjab and Balochistan.
“There is a risk of flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur during the next 24 to 48 hours.”
Flood risk in Punjab and Balochistan
According to NDMA, there is a medium-level risk of flash floods in various districts of Punjab.
Similarly, a risk of flash floods has also been expressed in Balochistan areas including Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, and Kohlu.
There is a possibility of flooding in streams due to rains in Barkhan, Loralai, Dukki, and Dera Bugti in Balochistan, in view of which relevant institutions have been instructed to take necessary measures.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
There is also a risk of rising water levels and flooding in the Swat and Panjkora rivers in Chitral, Swat, and Upper Dir of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to the NDMA.
It also predicted heavy rains in Khyber, Orakzai, Hangu, and Karak.
There is a fear of flood situations developing in the streams of Tank, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan.
Flood risk in Gilgit-Baltistan
A medium-level risk of flash floods has been expressed in the streams of Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, and Gilgit in Gilgit-Baltistan.
NDMA has instructed the relevant institutions to keep a close watch on the situation and ensure necessary arrangements are complete.
