ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has declared that every drop of Pakistan’s water is a red line, warning that Islamabad would give a direct response if India failed to reverse its position on the Indus Waters Treaty.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Yadgar-e-Fatah Monument in Islamabad erected in remembrance of Pakistan’s victory in the Battle of Haq, the Prime Minister stated that while Pakistan desires peace, it will never sacrifice its national interests.
“The Indus Water Treaty has been violated unilaterally by India. The last drop of water from Pakistan shall be considered our red line,” stated the Prime Minister, who added that while Pakistan desires peace, it cannot be taken as weakness on its part.
The monument, according to him, reflected the might and supremacy of the Pakistani armed forces and honored the Pakistani nation and its military leadership because of the success attained through the Battle of Haq.
In addition, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistanis have exhibited unity and steadfastness amid the confrontation and that it is essential not to allow anyone to harbor ill intentions towards Pakistan.
He emphasized national unity, stressing that politics should never become hostility, and that Pakistan cannot be subjugated when united as one.
During his remarks about regional and global affairs, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan wishes to see the world free from any kind of clash and stated that Islamabad played an important role in facilitating talks between Washington DC and Tehran.
Speaking on the progress made in regards to the Mecca Defense Pact, Prime Minister Shehbaz described it as an indication of peace and security in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance about the right of Palestinians and clarified that Islamabad’s policy on Kashmir was crystal clear.
In addition to this, he requested the government of Afghanistan to ensure that their land is not utilized against Pakistan’s interests by any terrorist group.
Speaking on bilateral relations between Pakistan and India, Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked US President Donald Trump for his efforts in bringing peace between both nations, and described the agreement as an effort that saved the lives of millions of people.
